Black 2000s Fashion was usually a bit more than required. a basic t-shirt? Of course not; it would be clipped, tight, and returning comments back to you. Even your tracksuit would be dazzling, and your jeans couldn't be just basic denim.

Y2K apparel holds particular meaning for me as a teen in the early 2000s black fashion. The days before internet buying, I would spend hours reading fashion publications and creating wish lists in mail-order catalogues.

These are the top trends for 00s that I recall fawning over. And, should I am fortunate enough - wearing!

Y2K fashion was always a little bit extra. A plain t-shirt? Of course not; it would be tight, cropped, and saying something back to you. Even your tracksuit would be bedazzled, and your jeans couldn't just be plain denim.

The Y2K fashion we really wore

As a teenager in the early 2000s black fashion, Y2K fashion has a special place in my heart. I would spend hours poring over fashion magazines and making wish lists in mail-order catalogs (the days before internet shopping!).

These are the top 00s trends that I remember drooling over. And, if I was lucky enough - wearing!

1. Boho Y2K Fashion

Early 2000s black fashion in the new millennium came back the bohemian style of the 1970s with a modern update.
Though with a little more glitter, it was equally as free-spirited and effortlessly fashionable from tie-dye to ruffles and paisley print.

In 2004, my most valued item was a tiered, paisley pattern little skirt. It was pink and brown tie dye, and sequins bedazzled the paisley motif. This thing moved me from discos to barn dances and laid-back summer evenings.

2. Hemming for a handkerchief

Handkerchief hems brought by the boho rebirth became standard in Y2K fashion.
The cut of handkerchief hems is asymmetric. Like a folded handkerchief, basically one side or half is longer than the other.

They turned up on tops, skirts, and dresses. From the bohemian style to blinged-out party clothing.

3. Y2K "Going Out Tops"

In Y2K fashion, A Going Out Top was regarded as the peak flawless appearance.
Usually referred to as a "nice top" or a "evening top". Every dorm in the black 2000s fashion heard a conversation like this:

"We're headed out tonight; what are you wearing?", "oh, just jeans and a Going Out Top."

A Going Out Top has to have one of the following qualities to transform a pair of jeans from a day-to- night outfit:

Stuck spaghetti straps
Halteringneck
Sequins, diamante glitter, or sequins
Hem on a handkerchief
neck for cowl
My going out top of choice was a black sequined strappy top with tiered chiffon handkerchief hem.

4. Mini Skirts for Y2K

4. Mini Skirts for Y2K

Mini skirts from Y2K ranged from short to around belt width.

The preferred skirt of the black 2000s fashion was micro minis. Mini skirts arrived in the traditional straight denim look as well as pleated designs in corduroy, tartan, or pinstripe.

In 2002, a Burberry tartan pleated mini skirt was the one item I wanted more. I never got one, but I have since piled enough pleated tartan skirts in my closet to offset the heartbreak of teenage me!

Seen all over the characters in classic pop culture films like Mean Girls, Y2K minis have returned as the ideal illustration of the decade's look.

5. Y2K Casual Bling

Regarding Y2K fashion, everything might be glistened.
Diamante, sequins, rhinestones, glitter. Everything, from tracksuits to trousers and skirts, had a little glitz added. Not safe from the bedazzler was anything.

6. Y2K Baby Tees

Tiny cropped Y2K baby tees
Brand names, logos, patterns, or tongue-in-cheeks statements adorned short sleeves or sleeveless infant tees.

The appearance was rather like that of a child's t-shirt, which explains the name! used with baggy cargo pants or low-waist jeans or capris or miniskirts.

7. Y2K Surf-core Style

Surfers revived in the 00s helped to define surf style as the new street fashion.
Y2K surf-core focused on orange, blue, brownish designs inspired by Hawaiin.

Companies like Quicksilver and Billabong rode the wave of success of TV shows like The OC that made beach casual look so hip.

The surfer's stare had us all in a chokehold. Early in the black 2000s fashion, I wore far too many teal and Hawaiian designs for someone who couldn tan, lacked beachy waves, and most certainly could not surf.

8. Smart-Casual Fashion in the 2000s.

8. Smart-Casual Fashion in the 2000s

The usual smart-casual outfit was black and white, satin shirts, fitting blazers, pinstripes.

From denim to satin, blazers appeared in every fabric and color; they were always fitting and embellished with ruffles, embroidery, or glitter nevertheless. Blouses had belted waist lines and puff sleeves, or peplum fits.

It was the ideal approach to present oneself as smart, but not overly intelligent.

9. Denim Y2K

Denim jackets matching denim midi skirts. Denim capris and tank tops made of denim. Y2K denim was never, never dull and rather beautiful. Even red carpet events saw full double denim ensembles worn rather frequently.

Without distressed, fading washes, or decorations, Y2K denim was not complete.

My 00s double denim set consisted on a fitting denim blazer worn with faded bootcut pants.

10. Y2K Pants

APopular were also brown, patterned, white jeans.

For Y2K jeans, the fashionable fit was a flared bootcut. hip and thigh gripping form, kicking out at the knees and calves to create a shoe-covering flair. Wearing excessively long jeans was common, hence your flares would tear, drag on the ground, catch under your heels.

And when it rained, we all developed moist ankles as our dragging flares absorbed the puddles!
